Reproduction Civil War Wood Toy Limber Jack - Sometimes called the Wood Penny Doll and or Limber Jack. Made by George Orthey, deceased, well known around the world for hand made Harps, Dulcimers. Have several left from the estate auction, when they are gone, there will be no more. Jointed wood, possible maple or oak, 11" tall by 3" wide at chest. They come with a dowel rod for walking. George Orthey logo stamped on the reverse. George Orthey of Newport was a world wide expert on Autoharps. He created harps for many legends to include Musicians such as June Carter Cash, Johnny Cash, Bryan Bowers, Dog Watson, Mike Seeger, Patsy Stoneman, Bob Lewis, Little Roy Lewis, Bill Clifton, Ivan Stiles just to name a few. Libby Prison Wood Mallet Souvenir - Charles Gunther, a Chicago candy manufacture & self made millionaire along with several other investors purchased Libby prison. In April of 1889 the building was disassembled from Richmond, Virginia and moved to Chicago. The prison was re-constructed and turned into the Nation's first Civil War museum, the grand opening was September 20, 1889. Gunther was a civil war relic collector with a large collection to include the greatest Lincoln Collection of memorabilia in the country. These mallets were made from the original floor of Libby Prison and sold from the gift shop there. It is noted that the first 3 months over 100,000 people visted and even more during the Columbian Exposition in 1893. It wasn't long after, interest dropped off and again in 1899 Libby was again dismantled. A scarce and hard to find souvenir sold from the gift store, made of Libby Prison Wood. Lincoln Statue - Looks just like marble but is made of a dense plastic or resin material. This has great detail with felt covered bottom, I'm sure these are very expensive in the Washington DC shops. SCARCE GAR Custer Post #6 Ballot Box - Unigue and one of a kind historic ballot box named after George Armstrong Custer Post #6 Tacoma Washington, Leavenworth, Kansas and Baltimore, Maryland. Custer made his first fame at Gettysburg. On June 28, 1863, three days prior to the Battle of Gettysburg, General Pleasonton promoted Custer from captain to brigadier general of volunteers. Box shows wear & use, small crack bottom flat, minor wood chipping & nicks to paint. The small wood drawer that held the marbles is missing & long gone to time. Overall size is 10 1/2" by 5" wide with a 8" long cannon barrel. The GAR had meetings which would require voting, they used different color marbles, placed them in the cannon barrel muzzel and they would roll to the inside bottom.
