RARE & SCARCE Civil War Playing Cards - Full Deck of 52 cards, circa 1860 DOUGHERTY 26 BEEKMAN ST NEW YORK made by a key manufacturer in the history of American playing cards. Deck features a most beautiful highly decorative blue ace which is emblazoned EXCELSIOR above an eagle with spread wings, unshaded center wreath, the court cards are two way, there are no indice. The backs are printed in blue and have an elegant Victorian design. The cardstock is non-glossy and feels thicker than modern decks, the design and printing indicates a more primitive method of manufacture than compared to todays standards. After surviving 150 years, the deck is (amazingly!) complete at 52 cards, there were no jokers issued with civil war period decks. Given there age, the condition is surprisingly very good to excellent showing age toning & use, no significant creases or folds. There are the remains of light pencil markings on most of the cards, it looks as though someone marked the numerical value of the cards onto each one at some point in time. Either the pencil marks have faded or someone has tried to erase them. A chance of a lifetime awaits you, full complete decks are scarce today. - Price is $ 750.00 plus shipping and insurance.
