Civil War Era Medical Canteen - Oval Medical canteen is made of tin with solder seams. The body size is 9 1\2 long x 6 3\4 wide by 1 1\4 inches thick. Canteen has two period repairs which does little harm, the one side is dented. These canteens worn on the side were made curved to fit against the body. Civil War Period French Pattern 1858 Army Canteen - Scarce example here, issued to the 18th Massachusetts, 62nd & 83rd Pennsylavania regiments and later to 49th & 72nd New York. See the Mike O'Donnell's new canteen book for severall examples listed. The size 5 5/8" tall not to include spouts, 5 3/4" wide by 2 3/8 thick. Canteen show light rust, both strap hangers intact, these came without covers.
